This course on the International Mechanical Code (IMC) contains six hours of lessons covering the code itself and its changes for the 2024 edition. This course is approved by the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board and covers the following topics:

  • Chapter 1: Scope and Administration
    • This segment deals with how and where the IMC is applicable, who the code official is, and how they administer this code. 
  • Chapter 2: Definitions 
    • This segment defines many of the specific terms used throughout the Code. 
  • Chapter 3: General Regulations 
    • Learn about the regulations that are applicable to more general concepts such as structure protection, equipment and appliance location, and piping support.
  • Chapter 4: Ventilation 
    • The segment looks at the regulation of ventilation and ventilation systems. 
  • Chapter 5: Exhaust systems 
    • Learn how the Code regulates exhaust systems. Clothes dryer exhaust, domestic cooking exhaust equipment, and commercial kitchen makeup air are all discussed.
  • Chapter 6: Duct Systems 
    • Examine regulations applicable to ducts and other related topics, including plenums, air filters, and transfer openings. 
  • Chapter 7: Combustion Air 
    • This segment looks at the general regulations dealing with combustion air. 
  • Chapter 8: Chimneys and Vents 
    • This segment explores the regulations governing chimneys and associated vents.
  • Chapter 9: Specific Appliances, Fireplaces, and Solid Fuel-Burning Equipment 
    • Discover the regulations affecting fireplaces, incinerators, infrared heaters, forced-air warm-air furnaces, and other similar appliances.

Instructor Bio

Gary

Gary Xavier holds several certifications and licenses and is also a member of ASHRAE, RETA, and IIAR. He has over 50 years of experience in the HVAC trade including system operation, maintenance, and management. He has worked as an instructor for both online and in-person training including both continuing education and initial training. Prior to teaching, Gary founded and managed his own company specializing in steam and hot water boiler systems, piping, chillers, and glycol systems.
